In today's page two editorial, Diario Libre's Adriano Tejada writes about what's foremost in the minds of Dominicans. He writes that if you ask people what they want, they will not talk about elections, or busting the leaders of the losing political parties, or revenge, but of transparency and being left in peace. He comments that people just want to get back to normal life and be left to fend for themselves, and are not interested in the issue of constitutional reform, that seems to be top of the government's agenda, and that the government wants to make a priority of. He writes that the people want the free trade agreement to go into effect, not because they want to buy US products, but to see if the government gets around to holding tenders for its purchases. Tejada comments that few are interested in the content of laws, but are interested in the power contracts and in respect for citizens. The people want to be able to return to the sports stadiums without fearing the chance of being mugged, and that new obstacles not be created that indirectly benefit armed bandits. He urges that the people of the government party, who have just won the elections, listen to the citizens so they do not continue playing music that the people do not want to dance to. "The people want actions, coherence, transparency and want to feel the good effects of government," he concludes.
