Anyone changing large amounts of dollars should ask for the higher rate. Someone I know got 36 to 1 when they exchanged $10,ooo USD.

Paradise is still the same old Paradise...see the happy heads in Colombia next year!

Yeah NYC but not everyone wants to exchange 10K for a mongering vacation.

I don't even want to spend 10K in Manhattan on pussy.

?

Some guy got a nice exchange rate but he had to drop a shitload of cash to do so.

I guess he was going to be in DR for a year or so.

I was talking about having 10k on hand to trade. That's totally foreign to me!

You actually have to declare that before you enter the country.

If you look at your tourist card there is a section for cash over 10K.

I guess the gentleman in question could walk into a bank. I used to work at Citibank and I believe they have a branch in Santo Domingo...if you have an account with the bank you could withdraw 10K but damn that is a ton of cash to blow on hookers and crack.

If that is an actual rate, why wouldn't we all just get together for Christmas and pool our money?

I am sure we have at least 10K for the Christmas week a lot of us our down there. Hell it's probably more like 20K!

I'm interested in contributing, but I'll probably get there too late. How long is this rate good for?

Pooling makes sense...I'll ask about the special rate ASAP....in dominican time.

Yes, the person I know really needed it bad. They live in DR and have special contacts within some of the right areas...banks included.

The local banks will be more happy to accomodate a true dominican local vs. a gringo any time though...sad, but true and maybe the source really needed dollars at that special time too...I gotta double check into this...no promises.

I was told a couple of points higher than the street rate would be possible if a lot of dollars were exchanged.

dont believe THAT rate, lest you saw the receipt.
due to the expats streaming back into DR for christmas, there are to much dollars around. nobody is really interested in buying large sums. well, thats my humble statement, observing whats going on.....
