On Sunday 19 April a meeting was held at Andres' restaurant near the beach, which was chaired by the Minister of Tourism, Lic. Francisco Javier García. The entire business community in the town were invited to attend. The Minister announced that the government would be initiating drastic measures to ensure that the town becomes better known to the tourism sector. This year will mark the beginning of the construction of a new modern hospital, and the government will make 10 million pesos available to resolve the problem of stench from the local authority's landfill site. In addition, all roads will be asphalted from the beginning of June onwards. There are also plans to create a yachting marine at the mouth of the Sosúa river. The beach will also be renovated, which means that all small snackbars and shops will have to move to a new (yet to be built) shopping centre, which will be located near the entrance to the beach.

These announcements by the Minister caused considerable unrest and even panic among the various shop-owners present at the meeting. The Minister tried to calm things down by saying that specific proposals will be made public later in the year, which will show that all shop-owners will benefit from these changes.

It's things like this that will raise the price of Pussy more than a guys going down there and spending 500 to 1000 peso more than the next guy.Hell it may just destroy the whole Mongering Scene there as we know it.

That is a LOT of projects.

I would be very surprised if "all" of these items were completed. Or even started for that matter. You know how things go down there.

On the other hand, this may be in response to that foreign group who is planning high-end condos. And Sosua COULD change over time. Money does talk.

On the other hand (how many hands is that now?) what the foreign developer may not understand is how plans fall apart down there, and money intended for town improvement projects never make it to the right spot.

However, if the DR govt. did build a small hospital for Sosua residents that would be nice. That is something they def need. It would also be nice for tourists from NY who crash their paseos and smash their toes (sorry jimbo, couldn't resist)

In the end, chicas will be chicas.

I have a feeling the business of mongering will continue, whether it continues as we now know it in Sosua or not. After all the Sosua old school folks will tell you the Sosua as it is presently constituted isn't the Sosua that they first knew and fell in love with. Many of them will also tell you it was better back in the day, but that could just be that they are now senile ;), or they have a tendency as we all do to somewhat romanticize the past, and put down the present.

You know I have a great affinity for history, and the older I get the greater that affinity becomes, but there is nothing wrong with progress either, I am sure that whatever the changes are in many cases they will be for the best. The funny thing about the past in many cases, if we really had a chance to go back there and live in it, we would long for the present, because we get use to things as they are, and have a hard time reverting back to the way they were. Try going back 15 or so years and living your life without some of the things we have now, cell phones, laptops etc. As the sayings go you can never go home again, and once you been to the big city it is hard to go back to the small town you came from.

I have found that many times we get comfortable in what we have, and tend not to go out searching for new or different things, will I like it, well you won't know until you try it. If you never tried something new, I believe you would have never found Sosua or mongering in general in the first place; I don't know too many of us that were born into mongering, it had to be something you tried.

Just my two cents.

I would also propose a bus charter every Thursday Nite from Santo Domingo to bring in a better class of chicas. And then take them home Monday morning.

Yayow could do the selections on the SD end.

I could be the mamasan, and would bring it in cheaper than than Caribe Tours, all I would ask for my payment of course is that I would expect discounts from each of the chicas. They should all agree, as I would be assisting them in furthering their business opportunities. Again this is something I would do for the chicas, not for myself. Always looking to help the chicas.:D;) I am such a generous guy;).

I can't help but notice that. Your posts in many threads end in the same manner. I applaud you for your selfless generosity.

I cannot speak about the hospital or landfill, but I can tell you that if IGY (Island Global Yachting) has its way, there will be a huge complex built in Sosua. If you want to see what it will look like check this link. http://www.igymarinas.com/marinas/caribbean/#YGH
The Sosua project is in the very early stages right now and is at least five years away, but IGY is looking to purchase the property for the marina complex and the permits to build it right now. IGY is building complexes all over the world, and their complexes usually include high priced condos, and a large amount of retail space. They are very active here in the caribbean as you will see from their website.

More like another Negril....
Negril is mostly all couples at couples resort with the exception of Hedonism. I have been there through MoBay at least 3 dozen times in the past 25 plus years. It is weed, more weed, honeymooners, and more honeymooners. Chicas are available but far less obvious than other places in Mexico and Central America. I recently stayed at the Crown Plaza in Managua and they were right on the corners behind the hotel selling poon for the same price as the DR maybe cheaper. Plus no LE hassles there with Americans. They can not afford another war backed by the USA. IF Sosua goes to hell check out NICA first. It is cheap and easy to get to out of Miami.

Your a piece of work. My compliments. I would pay to preview the bus and get First Crack at the tightest.
