First Trip to DR Need Advice

I'm planning my first trip to DR for late March and looking for some advice on where to stay, etc. I'm a 47 yo male travelling solo and want a little bit of everything (who doesn't?). I had pretty much decided on the Volamar, but after reading these forums, now I'm thinking about the Palace or Europa. Does it really matter? Looking for some quiet beach time but want to be able to find decent chicas quick and easy. Any opinions and advice would be great! Also, I plan to stay 7 days. After air and room, will $1000 US cover me for food and drinks and maybe a girl or 2 a day? Help!!!!

Voramar is fine. There should be mongers all over the town to partner up with. Read my lastest trip report for updates.

Admittedly the below is from a 2002 WSG post, but since I have sun, sand and chicas on my mind, I definitely want to get this part right. Voramar website sounds perfect, but I really don't have a feel for distances from downtown and beach, esp at night! Wish I could say that I won't ask any more dumb questions, but with 10 weeks to go, I'm sure I'll come up with something. Any more thoughts for a novice? Thanks



I felt isolated and alone at Vooramar..Europa is only 1 and 1 half blocks from the Palace..you can walk it. Vooramar is about 1 mile away by a rickety beach no one wants to visit. One plus is that it's only about a quarter mile from High Caribe Disco

The Volamar is the furthest monger friendly place from anything. It is a mellow place that might just be cool for someone over 40 like us. I have never stayed there but have visited and approve of the place. If you rent a vehicle at the airport then it will not be an issue. If no vehicle you will have to rely on moto's to get around.

On the moto you're riding on. Three on a moto is common. I think I've seen as many as six on one (of course, not recommended, so don't try that).

Seems like many moto guys have cell phones and you can rent one for the week.

Lou at the shark bar rents out phones. Stay at the Palace or Europa. They are on the main road and a short walk to everything. The Europa is next to a strip joint ( Flamingo's ) and a whore Bar. Palace has chicas on site. Alot of ISOC people stay at the Palace and the weekends seem to always be full. I am staying at the Palace for 12 nights in January. This will be my 3rd time in 6 months. If you like to hang and party with many people the Palace. If you like to monger solo the Europa. If you want to be secluded the Valamar. Just my opinion. Also, i hate taking moto's at night. I like walking. It is safer.

Well, from what I'm reading, I won't be able to stop going back over and over, so no matter where I go, I'll just try them all in the end anyway :P

On Alejo Martinez. Very near to the Casino and the hotel Villa Chessa (another affordable hotel option that NO ONE here seems to EVER mention) . It's the same street as the baseball diamond, the hotel Atlantico and Pizza Alberto. On the eastern (High Caribe) side of Sosua.

I am planning my first trip to DR (sosua and boca chica) I cannot find much info on the web regarding the palace hotel(Sosua) where I want to stay. Does anyone have contact, web, email info?

the only one I can find is the Piergiorgio Palace Hotelin sosua. Is this the right one. It looks too nice.
