The first and only sextuplets in the Dominican Republic are alive and well at 5 1/2 months. Both parents of the sextuplets are extremely happy when they talk about the first five months and 17 days of their lives. Each day requires two large tins of powdered milk, dozens of jars of cereals and fruits and 40 disposable diapers. All these things have to be done on a very precise schedule or else there are six little mouths demanding and crying for their feed.

According to Listin Diario, the children weigh between 10 and 14 pounds, and are in perfect health. The smile a lot, try to talk and even try to crawl. A neighborhood volunteer group helps the family cope with all the work this involves. The father told Listin reporters that at times kids age 10 and 12 come over when all the babies start crying and play with them to distract them. The biggest of the group is Hugo Nicolas at 14 pounds. Manuel Emilio and Emely Marie enjoy being cuddled the most.

The newspaper says that the father, a chemical engineer, has developed a new line of beauty products called "Emely", after the tiniest of the six, as a way of offsetting the cash-flow problems associated with keeping the six healthy.

Nestle Dominicana is contributing the cereals and the milk, Continental de Negocios donates the diapers and Alvarez Sanchez donates the cases of baby foods. The family has to provide the out of pocket expenses for the nurses' travels to and from the house as well as help some of the volunteers with their food and travel, too. Each doctor's visit requires five or six volunteers and several cars.
