No, it is not Superman, but gasoline and diesel prices once again. Never in the course of Dominican history has the price of fuel reached these levels. Regular gasoline is now well over US$4.00 a gallon (RD$137) and premium fuel is close to US$4.75 (RD$148.40). Diario Libre calls the new gasoline and diesel prices "the highest in history". According to Ministry of Industry and Commerce sources, the higher prices are the result of Iran's recent threat to keep their oil off the market. Hydrocarbon taxes are one of the leading revenue producing sources for the government.
