The Supreme Court has transferred the Paya case hearing to the First Penal Chamber of the San Cristobal Court of the First Instance. The Paya case involves the shooting dead last August of seven Colombians in what has been described as a drug heist gone very wrong. The High Court's decision is contained in a letter sent to assistant prosecutor Frank Soto, the national director of the Drug Trafficking and Crime Prosecution Complex, who had made the request to the full body of the SCJ. San Cristobal Appeals Court prosecutor Jesus Fernandez Velez confirmed that the Supreme Court had ordered the trial to be transfered to his jurisdiction. Twenty-five people are in jail in connection with this case. Fernandez Velez said that the high court instructed the first substitute magistrate of the president of the Appeals Court for San Cristobal, Felix Matos Acevedo to announce the decision in a written communication sent to his office last Monday.
