The police announced the arrest of three suspects of the assault and murder of 18-year-old Vanesa Ramirez Fana last Friday in Cerro Hermoso neighborhood of Santiago. A fourth suspect, Ricardo Alejandro Reyes Martinez (La Tata) turned himself in today. The alleged intellectual and material authors of the murder are Amaury German Tavarez Peralta (Mediopolvo), 22; Jose Armando de la Rosa Diaz, 19, and Angel Ivan Ventura Herrera (Cloret), 25. Reportedly, Angelo Ivan Ventura fired the shot that killed the student. They have allegedly admitted committing the murder of Ramirez, a medical student at Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra.
The police followed the trail of the cell phone that the assailants sold to Jose Armando de la Rosa Diaz for RD$500.
News reports indicate that she was murdered when resisting robbery of her mobile and handbag. Ramirez was the daughter of two prominent Santiago physicians. The case has spurred widespread support for justice and a stop to crime. A wake has been organized for this evening with the burning of candles in protest.
