Yesterday, Cardinal Lopez Rodriguez said that a constitutional reform should include life terms to punish individuals that commit crimes of a "high moral classification". He specified he favors life terms in determined and classified crimes, not for any nonsense. "The reason why Pope John Paul II always opposed the death penalty was precisely for his defense of human life. The Pope was coherent with his principles of defending life, and thus society has other recourses, such as life terms" said the leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
