Counterfeit cigars burned In Bavaro they arrested dozens of street salesmen for selling counterfeit cigars. The brands involved included Davidoff, Montega, Montecristo, La Aurora, El Contador and many others.
In total 2216 boxes of cigars were confiscated, with a street value of over 2 million pesos,. These cigars were then burned in public. INTABACO staff have also been busy in Sosúa, and are hunting down street sellers who offer counterfeit cigars for sale.
Tourists looking for good brand names are advised to shop at specialised stores in Sosúa (e.g. SuperSuper, Fat Herman's and Cubano Cigars). You'll pay a little more, but can be sure that you are buying quality products.

Acid???

Yecchh!

The only flavor that belongs in a cigar comes from the tobacco leaf.

5 of Cigar Aficionado's 10 best come from the D.R.

Customs guy once asked me if any of the cigars I brought back from the D.R. were Cubans.

My response:

"You don't know much about cigars, do you?"

Not much for smoking, cigars or anything else, but on occasion in the past I would smoke an occasional cigar on some of our golf outings, and if I had a particular good day on the course, may have even celebrated with a cigar after a nice steak dinner with a cocktail.

I however did smoke a nice cigar, about two or three weeks ago, very smooth and I guess somewhat expensive by Dominican standards, I think I paid 700 pesos for it (don't ask me the name, because I don't remember). As I have said I often go to Plaza Colon near the end of el conde, and I have gotten to know the owner of the Cigar Factory, located right in front of Parque Colon next to the Hard Rock. The owner name is Hogando if any of you Santo Domingo smokers know him, anyway he had been bugging me for months to try one of his cigars. I finally relented and tried one as I sat out front of the store sipping something. It was enjoyable, but I don't think I will be doing it again anytime soon, in college I did smoke a pipe for a while as I went through that phase of my life, I always enjoyed a pipe, but haven't done that in years.
