The DR women's volleyball team is undefeated so far in the nine-day Pan American Cup, which includes three of the four 2008 Olympic Games semifinalists (Brazil, USA and Cuba), and serves as a qualifying event into the 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix scheduled for Japan.
The DR team has defeated Argentina (24-26, 25-13, 25-18, 27-25), Canada (23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21) and Trinidad & Tobago (25-6, 25-7, 25-14) since the opening of the event last week.
The event is taking place in Miami at the campuses of the University of Miami and Florida International University.
The DR team, ranked No. 13 in the world, is the tournament defending champion.
Now, the DR goes against Brazil, said DR coach Marcos Kwiek. Brazil was the gold medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The teams competing in Pool A are USA, Peru (17), Puerto Rico (19), Mexico (26), Costa Rica (30) and Guatemala (48). The teams in Pool B are Dominican Republic (13), Brazil (1), Canada (23), Argentina (31) and Trinidad & Tobago (53).
The winners of each pool will advance automatically to the semifinal round and the teams of second and third place will meet in crossed matches in the quarterfinals. The medal matches will take place on Sunday, 4 of July at the University of Miami.
