Leading lights of cinematography from Latin America, Spain and Portugal will be in Santo Domingo for two important conferences with presentations by government institutions that back the film industry in the region.
The Ministry of Culture is organizing the events. President Leonel Fernandez has spearheaded local efforts to turn the DR into a major filmmaking center.
These are the XVIII Ordinary Meeting of the Ibero-American Conference of Audiovisual and Cinematographic Authorities (CAACI) and the XV Ordinary Meeting of the Inter-governmental Ibermedia Committee.
The events will take place from 7 to 10 July and are sponsored by the Ministry of Culture. Delegates from 20 Latin American countries, Spain and Portugal will attend.

Sistema Estatal de Radio y TV (Panama)
Consejo Nacional de Cinematografia (Peru)
Instituto de Cine y Audiovisual (Portugal)
Instituto del Cine y Audiovisual (Uruguay)
Centro Nacional Autonomo de Cinematografia (Venezuela)
Corporacion de Cine (Puerto Rico).
"This is the largest meeting of film and public TV authorities in the region that has been held in our country. It is a way of stimulating the local film industry and promotes its values and reach," said Marlon Soto, director of cinematography for the Dominican government. Also representing the Dominican government at the event are Luis Rafael Gonzalez, director of the Cinemateca Dominicana, and Felix Manuel Lora, coordinator of educational film programs at the Ministry of Culture.
The inaugural event is scheduled for Wednesday, 8 July at the Hotel Intercontinental, with a talk by Culture Minister Jose Rafael Lantigua.
