Last week the DR took another step in the process of extending its diplomatic relations beyond the limits of the Caribbean and Latin America. Dominican ambassador to the UK Anibal de Castro presented his diplomatic credentials to Irish President Mary McAleese.
De Castro is the first Dominican ambassador to Ireland.
The ceremony was held at the President's house in Dublin, Aras an Uachtarain. The ceremony included full protocol and pomp and circumstance, including a toast and a military procession, followed by the singing of the Dominican national anthem.
President McAleese congratulated de Castro on being the first DR ambassador to her country and expressed an interest in mutual cooperation between both nations.
