Does anyone know anything about the Hotel Voramar in Sosua? It was recommended as a Monger's hotel. I'm curious about it.

Any idea how nice it is? Do they have chicas in residence or do I have to find my own on the mean streets? Is it like Blackbeards with a set price and a certain degree of security with the girls?
Not like BB, they do have some on site, but you can get your own. No set price.
Be prepared to motoconch into town/beach everyday.

You find your own and do your own thing.

I may stay there when I arrive June 27th. I have never been inside. TropicBob drove me by it one time. I know he likes it and says it is very clean. I may check it out. Only thing I did not like about it is it seemed far out. If you have car its fine, but I like being in the area of Europa and in walking distance to the beach. I may check it out if they have rooms available.

Voromar is at the end of the back road to Pedro Clisante (runs parallel to it). It has a pool, some chica's on-site who freelance so you talk pricing with them.
It's cheap but a bit away (1.5 miles) from the action, although that can be fine too if you use a moto concho.

I personally didn't feel welcome there. I would do a search to find the different experiences of the mongers who stayed at the hotel.

There are no motos at 11PM there so you will be in for the night.

There seems to be a wide gap between German and NA cultures.
That being said, one of the "bosses" there, is a fellow by the name of Henk.
He's a Dutch fellow, who used to be associated with the Don Andres Hotel, as well as Yaroa, and he's a great guy.
As a lot of the motoconcho drivers have cellphones, one could get a few numbers, in the case of needing a late night ride.

I just gave up my motoconcho job last week, in favor of sitting on my skinny white arse, and doing nothing.

I stayed there in january against PS 's advice......The place is very cold and unfriendly, the chicas seemed that way as well and I couldn't wait to check out of there!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I have stayed at Henk's place four times last year, and will stay there when I arrive on June 28th. I personally like the distance from the rift-raft - chica friendly, and place that is not a whorehouse, but closer to a real hotel. Henk is a very nice guy, and offered advice to me in the past about DR and Sosua. I picked up the bartender one trip, and we had a great time. The bartenders are friendly, but you have to make the first move (unlike the red roses). |Typical guests are european, a lot of dutch who do cling to themselves, but that is no sweat for me....I dont do to the DR to talk to dutch men...
The pool has always been clean and is large, like BB's. The rooms are clean, and unlike some other places in Sosua I dont feel bed bugs, spiders and cockroaches are crawling all over me all night along. Half the room s have AC, so you need to request it. No mini-bar in room, which is the only negative I have about the place. Henk serves a European breakfast for like 80 pesos or so, if you like.
Color TV works great (unlike the Palace) so I can catch my american college footbal games.
As far as the motorconcho's...a steady group of them gathers a half black away under the big oak tree, and as soon as you step out on the sidewalk one of them will beep or swoop down to see if you need a ride. I have gotten rides into Sosua up to midnight (but I usually head in around 9pm), and obviously always easy to get a motor concho back.
Looking forward to my next stay.
.I dont do to the DR to talk to dutch men...

I personally like the distance from the rift-raftThat's just it! He treated me like i was trash. 5 minutes of questioning before he gave me the room. Even asked me how i heard about the hotel in a very condescending way. I only took the room because i was in a bind. But never again.......... Hope it didn't have anything to do with the color of my skin!!
When I almost stayed there in january 2005, I sent soem emails enquiring about the place. I found his responses very pushy and never stayed there.

Asking questions? He should have been saying "Thanks for picking my hotel over the 100 other choices you have please let me know how I can keep you returning to my hotel in the future!"
I cant think of not being able to find a room in Sosua. Granted some choices are better than others but even in a bind pick someplace and stay for 1 night while looking for a new place.

Hope it is not too late, find some place else to stay. I had reservations back in January. I rode by the hotel the night before I were to check in and did not like the location at all. Too many other places in Sosua to be left stranded in the moondocks.

Myself and a friend stayed at Voramar my first time in DR, two years abo. It's a bit far from the action, but that's what I liked the place.
Guest friendly. The owner Henk was cool and helpful.
Me and my buddy could pass for Dominican, and we're relatively young, so the young ladies at the bar were cool with us. I didn't want to mess with any of them since it felt awkward to be passing by them everyday. I prefered to find offsite entertainment.
I don't know how it's been in the two years since, but the food there was decent, and you can order pizza fromone of the local spots.
The location is a little inconvenient, but not the worst thing in the world, unless you just gotta be in the mix.

I never talked to you about that. I did the same stayed there one night and left for much greener pastures. I felt that the color of my skin had a lot to do with it!!!!!!!!!!! A local wannabe gangsta also tried to set me up to rob me that night while I was walking to clasico's. But I felt it, saw it didn't look right and took a motoconcho and avoided it. The chica riding with me said it was a set up in the making.

I started a thread about the Voramar last year but was put off staying there because they put one price on their website and tried to charge another when I made a booking enquiry (I dealt with Henk and he wouldn't move on this).
Someone suggested that this place was nearby, so good for anyone wanting an out of the way location or a German landlord:
http://www.best-hotel-sosua.com/
There was also an odd contribution about the Voramar in another thread suggesting that the toilets don't work properly in some rooms and that guests are therefore asked to bag up used toilet paper in bin bags!
I went to an Haitain gig at the casino in that part of town on my last trip a couple of months ago and it isn't an area I would want to stay in. I'll take my chances with the rift-raft.
