Strike in Sosúa due to power cuts
The power supply in certain parts of Sosúa is still a huge problem for local residents.
StrikeIn Sosúa Abajo, Maranatha, Cangrego, La Unión, Charamicos and Villa Liberación residents often only have power for four hours a day - although the power company for the north coast (Edenorte) has recently increased its prices significantly. Residents complain that, despite the many hours that they are without power, their electricity bills continue to increase.
The various neighbourhood associations have now put their heads together and decided to organise protest actions on 15 and 16 July. They hope that their campaign will remain peaceful, but they also know that some of these hyped-up youngsters can get out of hand, so there may be some violence.
