Santo Domingo Mayor Roberto Salcedo will lead the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities (UCCI) on the occasion of the celebration of its 14th General Assembly in Santo Domingo in July 2010.
During the UCCI's 41st assembly held in La Paz, Bolivia, Ibero-American city mayors also agreed to declare Santo Domingo the Ibero-American Environmental Capital in 2010, in recognition of activities that the municipality will be organizing to improve the city's environmental quality with its citizens' participation.
UCCI is composed of municipalities from Madrid, Spain and Lisbon, Portugal in the Iberian Peninsula; Buenos Aires, Argentina, Santiago, Chile; San Jose, Costa Rica; Managua, Nicaragua; Tegucigalpa, Honduras; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Asuncion, Paraguay; Bogota, Colombia; Brasilia and Sao Paulo, Brazil; Caracas, Venezuela; Guatemala City; La Paz and Sucre, Bolivia; Lima, Peru, Mexico City; Quito, Ecuador and San Salvador, El Salvador, in addition to Santo Domingo.
