Public Administration Minister Ramon Ventura Camejo said yesterday that nepotism is a serious mistake that breaks the law and called for disciplinary sanctions for anyone who engages in this practice.
Diario Libre says that as he was questioned about possible nepotism in the Dominican Corporation of State-owned Electricity Enterprises (CDEEE), Ventura Camejo said that he would meet with its executives in order to devise an audit of the personnel who work there. "It has been established that our Ministry will proceed to work with the institution and revise the procedures that are set out in the Law of Public Operations.
The official pointed out that the cases where there is proof of corruption should be taken to court. He maintained that the entity he directs is working on a data processing package that will make personnel recruitment for public office workers more transparent and allow the identification of ties between the hires and the officials.
Ventura Camejo was taking part in a seminar with human resource directors, and he called on public institutions to become part of the new system, as the Ministry of Public Health has done.
Recent TV investigative journalism shows by Alicia Ortega and Nuria Piera have presented evidence of widespread nepotism in government departments.
