Playing in Mexico at the Norceca, the North, Central and Caribbean American division FIVB Women's Junior World Championship, the DR youth team has made the final four teams of the championship. Yesterday, the DR team joined defending champions Brazil, Germany and Bulgaria as semi-finalists in the FIVB Women's Junior World Championship.
The DR scored a decisive and thrilling victory over Turkey 25-20, 24-26, 22-25, 25-22, 15-7 on Wednesday.
After Thursday's rest day, the DR team will play Brazil while Germany meets Bulgaria in Friday's action in Mexicali, Mexico.
The offensive exploits of Jeoselyna Rodriguez and Lisvel Eve propelled the Dominican squad to the last remaining spot in the semis. Rodriguez, the leading scorer of the competition with 117 points, added 27 to her total, while Eve helped with 21 of her manufacture for the victory in almost two hours, good for second place in Pool F behind Germany.
The DR had been undefeated in the tournament until losing to Germany the day before.
The DR's national women's team is ranked 13th in the world, and the strong play by the youth team shows the strength of women's volleyball in the country.
