The National Household Survey of Income and Expenses (ENIGH 2007) indicates that 34.7% of all housing in the country has been built in the past 10 years.
Of the 2,530,474 dwellings, 976,287 have been built in the past 10 years, much more than in other decades when the construction growth had reached 22%.
The north of the country has the most dwellings, with 37.5%. Greater Santo Domingo has 31.9%, the South has 17.8% and the East has 12.7%.
There are 731,906 persons renting their homes, of which 44.6% live in Greater Santo Domingo.
Of the 209,246 apartments occupied, 69.2% are located in Greater Santo Domingo.
