Electricity Superintendent Francisco Mendez has told reporters that the government has sufficient resources to maintain the subsidies to the electricity generators and distributors for the rest of the year. Mendez said that the gradual reduction of the subsidies would begin in 2007. Mendez and the executive vice-president of the CDEEE, Radhames Segura, told the reporters that as the Plan to Recover the Electricity Sector begins to show results, the government will begin to reduce its subsidies. According to the Superintendency, subsidies constitute an expenditure of 2.5% of GDP.
