The production of license plates for motorcycles had been halted for nearly four years, and, as a result, thousands of these vehicles are circulating with no legal identification. Colonel Damian Arias, the official spokesman for the Metropolitan Transit Authority (AMET), said that "a large number" of RX 115 and RX 135 motorcycles, commonly known as trail bikes or "salta montes" in Spanish, are being used by criminals. As a result of this, the head of AMET, Major General Jose Sigfrido Fadul, met with the director of Internal Revenue and 50,000 new plates have been manufactured. They have not yet begun to be distributed.
