Pics are from my day trip to Cab in Feb '09 - having probs with memory card for this trip.
Okay, I’m just going to give a consolidated report here. I’m having some picture transfer issues so I’ll keep the insights short as possible…stayed in Cabarete this past trip.
Chicas & Classicos:
My first night at Classicos saw no action for me. Plenty of choices there mind you, but I had had a very satisfying session at LPs prior and just wasn’t up for another round. Not that that’s stopped me before.

After a day trip to Cabarete last time in the DR I decided to expand my horizons a bit and try staying outside of Sosua. Rented a car from Hertz at the airport and off I went.
The hotel itself was great. Best staff and management I’ve come across yet in the DR. It’s geared more towards families and couples so if you’re looking for a party spot – this it ain’t it. If you’re looking for a hideout with select chicas – perfection!
The standard room is okay. Best thing about mine – outdoor Jacuzzi 30 feet from my patio door – beach another 30 from there (if that).
The rate is $80 per night – but got a free night since I booked for a week. Next time I’ll upgrade to single deluxe room – has separate living room and full kitchen for around $130. Also know their rates vary with season. My airline ticket was nada (except taxes) – so hotel/air averaged what I have paid at NG or SB on past trips.
Cabarete has a more laid back feel than Sosua to me. Since I could walk 15 yards from my room to the beach I avoided a lot of the “take a look in my shop my man” hassles that you run into getting where u want to in Sosua. That’s not to say the beaches are totally hassle free – but definitely less so. A lot more offers for weed too in this beach bum community.
Eats in Cabarete I found to be double that of Sosua and really no better. Thank God for my little yellow banana (Fiat) – I tended to hit my favorite spots in Sosua to eat and hangout – but enjoyed the quiet down time Cab offered.

Club scene & chicas: There seemed to be more gringas looking to hookup with the Dominican beachboys than vice versa. Saw some talent about but nothing outstanding; in the end made all my hits in Sosua.
There was a casino about two minutes from my place also. When I saw they had no craps table – I walked in and out. No talent about at all.

Cubre Libre: Fred clearly has this place as a spot to chill and sing (karaoke) and sip a few beers. He has a great new room set up in the back for private parties. Spent a number of nights there drinking, having pizza, and chatting. This one guy there who I’ll call “Powder” was hysterical in his interactions with the chicas.
Big D’s Beer Can Chicken & Ribs on the beach: Can’t say enough about this guy and his food. When in town stop by and support him. Chicken with sides and soda 200 RD.
