I'll be in Sosua from September 3 - 7 and am looking for a good English speaking driver to take me out into the countryside for some day trips. Am willing to pay up to US $50/day if necessary. Thanks.

50 bucks a day is wishful thinking. I don't think you're going to find one for that price; gas is too expensive.
Maybe 50 bucks a day, plus fuel.

With 6-8 guys , our van came out to about $160 each, for the whole week + $50 tip for the driver . Not sure if that helps.
For ONE person, no way . Fuel is a big cost, even when you split it. So $50 a day PLUS fuel sounds about right.

thanks guys for the info. I didn't have any idea what it would cost in the Sosua area so you estimates are very helpful.
I'll post my expereinces when I return. I might even run into a few of you while i'm down there.

FYI:
I had an offer of $75 per day for a van with driver + gasoline. This came with one of the rental villas

You may be able to negotiate a better rate than the ones given above ...right now cats are hungry...and the business is slower...a buyers market...In my last 3 trips I had 3 taxi drivers offer to drive me per day what it would cost for a rental per day...about $35-$45.....plus propina or beer (depending on the driver).
Your spanish skills need to be a little better than average gringo spanish to cut the specifics of the deal though, and having an introduction from someone will go miles...
