British Buy Bonus To Invest $100 Mln in Dominican Republic

UK-based travel company Buy Bonus LTD said on January 17, 2005 it would invest $100 mln (76.74 mln euro) in the Dominican Republic.
Buy Bonus LTD wants to build a tourism complex in Samana, 245 km northeast of Santo Domingo.
The hotel complex in Samana will be exclusively for pairs and will have 1,000 rooms. The hotel will cover an area of 400,000 sq m.
Buy Bonus LTD aims at converting the hotel complex in one of the most prominent in the republic. The tourism complex in the region will create many permanent jobs and will boost economic development, Buy Bonus LTD said.
A number of tourism projects were announced in the Dominican Republic by foreign investors in 2004 and the beginning of 2005. The tourism sector is one of the most important sectors for the country's economy and accounts for some 20 pct of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the Dominican Republic.
