Local consumers might well see some fairly impressive price cuts when the DR-CAFTA agreement kicks in. Processed fish, juices and fruits should go down by as much as 33% in many cases and fine cheeses and appliances will also see healthy price cuts. Baby food, wines, disposable diapers, shaving gear, irons, microwaves and stoves, fridges and freezers are all scheduled to undergo major price reductions. According to the article in today's Listin Diario, tires, car radios, brake parts and other items should also go down. Next year, car prices are expected to fall by 5% and in five years by 20% or more. DR-CAFTA was scheduled to go into effect on 1 January 2006, this date was then postponed to 1 July 2006 and a new postponement is expected.
