View Full Version : Merengue Festival in Sosúa

This week, through to the end of Sunday evening, there's a big party on at the helicopter pad in Sosua. The area includes lots of kiosks where you can buy sweet items or strips of dried goats meat, candy floss, popcorn or take a ride on the merry-go-round. Although this event has been given the fancy title of Merengue Festival, isn't it really just an ordinary fairground? The organisers deny this, because a merengue-tipico band plays live on stage every evening. These bands have little national recognition, but are very popular in and around Sosúa. For example, the very popular Telemicro canal 5 is due to play on Sunday evening. The representative of the organising committee was not sure if this particular group would actually make it. But in any case a merengue band of some kind will close this week's festival.

We walked around the carnival, it was OK, but no band there yesterday on Sunday....

they started setting up for this a week ago and there were a lot of Presidente booths setup.......it's on the street that runs from the Casa Marina down to Coco Hotel/Vormar etc..... just past the Bologna Pizza Parlor...........

They have this festival every year and its always a good time. Its like a carnival and on the weekends they had some good bands. Lots of locals from the area go there for cheap food and drinks and to ride some of the rides.

When its a band night the place can get really crowded.

Some of the local chicas wander around early in the evening before Classicos but you can run into quite a few chicas you wont normally see in the bars at night too.
