The Ambassador of South Korea to the Dominican Republic, Ln Byung-taik said yesterday that his main aim is to foster an increase trade between the two nations to US$400 million yearly, twice the current figure. According to a report by Listin Diario, the diplomat stated that his term in the DR seeks to broaden bilateral ties in the academic, cultural, energy, tourism and Haitian cooperation fields. South Korea could increase trade with the DR in the generation and distribution of electricity, cellular phone manufacturing, hotel construction and vehicle parts manufacturing.

President Leonel Fernandez is scheduled to travel to South Korea where he will meet with government officials and Korean businessmen. Dominican ambassador in Korea, Hector Galvan stressed that Korean businessmen would consider investing in manufacturing in the DR to save on time in the transportation to US markets. These could be enticed with the fact that Korean goods manufactured in the DR could enter the US duty free under DR-CAFTA.
