There has been an increase of 224,818 jobs over the last two years, according to the CB's most recent National Workforce survey. El Caribe reports that the survey was carried out between 1 and 7 April by the Department of National Accounts and Economic Statistics. When comparing the results from April 2006 with the October 2004 figures, a 3.3% reduction is observed in unemployment, which fell from 19.7% in October 2004 to 16.4% in April 2006. The survey also indicates that from October 2005 to April 2006, the number of jobs increased by 109,460, the employment rate increasing from 46.0% to 46.8% during that period. The sectors that showed the most dynamic growth within the GDP during the past three quarters were those with highest growth in job creation, including agribusiness, which increased by 26,226 jobs; construction with 23,347 new jobs; and hotels, bars, and restaurants with 18,844 new jobs.
