The National Business Council (CONEP) is joining the chorus of groups that believes the DR needs to draw up a new migration policy. Conep is urging the government to create a new policy on migration, saying "now is the time" to draw up comprehensive migratory laws, that respect the human rights of the migrants, but also adhere to the labor, social and business realities of the DR. Conep president Lisandro Macarulla says migration policy should be formulated regardless of external pressures on the DR to do so. He added that it makes no sense that the DR still has no definitive migration policy and that the DR has yet to define its national interests in relation to migration. Macarulla says that not having a defined migration policy leaves the DR open to many accusations and added that the issue should be tackled without any prejudices, whether they be racial or ethnic, or detrimental to Dominicans or Haitians.
