Spain still giving

Despite having been hit hard by the world economic crisis, Spain has pledged EUR25 million to the DR in 2010. This is about the same amount that the DR received in aid from Spain in 2009. Spanish Ambassador to the DR, Diego Bermejo Romero made the announcement. Bermejo said that the DR continues to be a focal point for Spanish cooperation, and assured that Spanish funds given to the DR have been used correctly. Romero also referred to the sum of almost EUR4 million which is being spent on a study aimed at pinpointing what needs to be done to increase the quality of Dominican education. Romero said that in the last ten years Spanish aid to the DR has totaled over EUR260 million.
