Arguments about the first line of the Santo Domingo Metro are still raging, but the government has already started work on the second line of the public transport system. The second line, which will link Los Alcarrizos with San Luis and run under the John F. Kennedy Avenue, will have 14 stops. The planned line, almost double the length of the first metro line, will be divided into two sections, Line 2A and 2B. Line 2A will run until Maximo Gomez Avenue and Line 2B will run from Gomez to San Luis. Workers have begun soil analysis studies at the 9th kilometer of the Duarte Highway and have added a new layer of confusion and frustration for drivers. Crews are working to remove cables and pipes located under the 9th kilometer and the site will soon be converted into a parking lot for the heavy machinery being used for excavations. The Ministry of Public Works has partially closed off sections of Kennedy Avenue, between Nunez and the 9th kilometer, as well as sections of Duarte Highway at the 10th kilometer, for construction of the new collection of highway overpasses.
