Dengue returns?

In the last 45 days a total of 900 new cases of dengue fever have been reported in the northern provinces of the DR, including Santiago, Espaillat (Moca) and Puerto Plata. Of these cases, 5 people have died in the last 20 days in the city of Santiago, where the highest rates of dengue are being recorded. Public Health officials are asking citizens to remain calm, and that 25 neighborhoods in Santiago were fumigated over the weekend as a preventive measure against the spread of the disease. Health officials say that an increase in dengue cases is normal during this time of year in countries like the DR.
