The post-season is here and many Major Leaguers will be joining us for the rest of the Fall Classic's festivities. This year's version of the Classic has brought some unfortunate and quick surprises, including 3 first-round sweeps. In the Al, the Red Sox came in with high hope of repeating their 2004 World Series success, when they also struggled into the playoffs and the Wild Card. But it was not meant to be. The Sox struggled out of the gate and the Anaheim Angels took full advantage. The Sox could never recover from a Game 1 pounding and the lack of quality offenses and good defense sealed the deal for the Sox. The Yankees, once thought to be in decline, proved they are this year's favorite to take the crown. Behind strong performances by Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter, the Bronx Bombers bombed on the Minnesota Twins. The series was particularly exciting for Rodriguez, who after several years of post-season impotence came through in many key situations. Could this year be Rodriguez's redemption year? Yankee fans are hoping so. In the National League slugger Manny Ramirez and his LA Dodgers ended any hopes for Albert Pujols and his Cardinals winning any post-season hardware. Pujols is the front-runner for the NL regular season MVP, but Ramirez could be playing for the World Series MVP. And in the NL's final game the Philadelphia Phillies are on their way to defend their Championship. Slugger Ryan Howard has been the key for the Phillies' offensive success and many Dominican fans are glad the Phillies have advanced so they could see Pedro Martinez making a contribution on a potential World Series winner.
