Raul Humberto Yzaguirre has been appointed as new US Ambassador to the DR. Yzaguirre, who was born to Mexican parents in San Juan, Texas, is a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations and has served as president and CEO of the National Council of La Raza. Yzaguirre replaces former Ambassador Robert Fannin, who resigned from his position in January 2009. Yzaguirre has a long track record of fighting for civil rights, especially on behalf of the Hispanic and Latino communities in the US and immigration rights.
