The National Police has dismissed three officers, four sub-officials and two privates for the 7 May jailbreak from Rafey Prison. Lt. Colonel Nelson Miguel Batista Perez, Major Jose Rafael Gonzalez, Second Lieutenant Pedro Sanchez Rodriguez, Sergeant Major Camilo Carela Hernandez, Sergeant Daniel Tavarez Paradi, Corporal Ezequiel Reyes Moreta, Private Justo Domingo Ventura Gomez and Private Ceferino Flete Ventura were fired from their jobs. The men were all posted at the large Santiago prison when the jailbreak took place. Colonel Batista Perez and Second Lieutenant Sanchez Rodriguez were allowed to retire with their pensions because they had served in the force for over 25 years. The rest were "forced into retirement" without benefits or pensions and placed under the jurisdiction of the Santiago District Attorney. They are accused of conspiring to allow six prisoners to escape during the early hours of 7 May. The six fugitives were later apprehended. The investigating commission recommended that the remaining staff at the prison be transferred to other police units and a new workforce brought to the prison.
