Last week's housing fair, held on the grounds of Banco Popular in Santo Domingo and Santiago was defined as a success by bank executive Isael Pena. Over 2,000 units were given financing for a total of RD$3.5 billion. According to Diario Libre, about 50% of the units are located in Santo Domingo and 30% are in Santiago. The bank was offering 80%, 20-year mortgages at 14.5% and 16.5% APRs. Last year the bank financed 16% of the credits approved for the housing sector.
