In just under three weeks, the CDEEE will start the construction of the much talked about electricity expressway between the energy-rich south and the energy-starved north. This construction that is aimed at providing stable energy for industries and other clients in the Cibao and the rest of the northern half of the Dominican Republic. The project was made possible by means of Congressional approval of a loan package that totals EUR124 million (RD$4.96 billion). A network of high-tension power lines will carry 348,000 volts and 138,000 volts, according to Diario Libre. The money will come from different branches of Deutsche Bank, and the work itself will be carried out by Elecnor from Spain and Siemens of Germany. A tender has not been announced for this project.
