President Leonel Fernandez has held meetings with potential investors in Portugal, where he is due to attend the XIX Summit of Ibero-American Heads of State and Government, reports Dominican government news agency Antena en Linea. The investors expressed interest in electricity, renewable energy, construction, technology and circuit manufacturing. He met with the Espirito Santo Group, a leading Portuguese finance and investment consortium, and met with chief executives Manuel Fernando Espirito Santo and Pedro Neto. They focused on the possibility of the DR working in Brazil, Angola and Portugal through Espirito Santo connections.
Fernandez also met with the SAM Group and the BHM and outlined the creation of a US$50-US$60 million fund to build 2,500 houses for poor families, a project he said would begin in the first half of 2010, in coordination with local banking groups.
The President also spoke to the main executives of the EFACEC manufacturing group. This company makes electrical equipment and the Dominican leader explored the possibility of setting up a manufacturing operation in the DR.
