The National Trade and Business Federation (Fenacerd) is calling on the electricity distributors to create mechanisms for compensating paid up customers. The idea is to help provide incentives for prompt payment. Fenacerd president Roberto Rosario, who represents 30,000 members from the trade and business community, was speaking at a seminar on "The Impact of the Energy Sector Problems on Business and Traders", which was held jointly by Fenacerd and the State-owned Electricity Companies (CDEEE) at the Howard Johnson Hotel in San Pedro de Macoris. Rosario said that the Federation backs electricity sector efforts to punish people or companies that avoid paying for electricity, but they also feel that any entity that is up to date with its electricity bill payments and is still enduring long, long blackouts should also be considered for some sort of compensation. He called on the membership to reject what he described as "unscrupulous" offers to commit energy fraud. CDEEE executive vice-president Celso Marranzini also attended the seminar.
