The Institutionalism and Justice Foundation (Finjus) has criticized the size of the budget assigned to the Judicial Branch in the 2010 National Budget proposal. The Foundation points out that such cuts violate the law.
Finjus president Servio Tulio Castanos Guzman asks why the budget is being cut when the Judicial Branch has been given more responsibilities. He pointed to the new Judicial Power Council, which will take on the administrative and disciplinary responsibilities formerly held by the Supreme Court as just one example. Finjus also stated that the new Constitution assigns even more work for the Justice Department, making budget cuts "unthinkable".
