The 33% female quota for legislative positions was not apparent in the results of the May 16 mid-term elections. In the case of the Senate, there will only be two women out of 32 senators, representing only 6%, as reported by Diario Libre. Of 178 deputies elected, 32 are women, representing 18%. In terms of party affiliation, the PLD had the highest percentage - 32 out of 96 seats will be taken by women (23%). The woman who obtained the highest number of votes was the PLD's Minou Tavarez Mirabal with 17,202 votes, followed by the PRD's Digna Reynoso with 11,838 votes. Both are from the National District.
