Some 200 people were arrested across the country during a combined operation by the National Drug Control Department (DNCD) and the National Police. The swoop allowed agents to take known and recidivist drug sellers out of circulation, many of whom were surprised while sleeping in their houses, while others were caught in the act of plying their trade.
The raids took place in Santo Domingo, San Cristobal, San Francisco de Macoris, La Romana and other cities.
In the capital and San Cristobal alone, 51 people were arrested with hundreds of portions of cocaine, crack, marijuana as well as scales and weapons.
The blitz began at 6am and the police made hundreds of inspections and searches in the presence of assistant prosecutors assigned to the jurisdictions where the arrests and confiscations took place. This is the continuation of Phase III of Christmas Without Drugs Program, was supported by a helicopter and several launches that assisted in the searches of the barrios of the capital that are situated along the banks of the Ozama River.
