The director general of the Internal Revenue Office has announced new measures that are aimed at limiting tax evasion in the Dominican Republic. Juan Hernandez told reporters from all the major papers that his office would begin the process in January 2007. The new steps involve the application of a set of regulations requiring the use of governing fiscal invoices that include the numbering of all invoices meted by commercial entities. The new process will use computer programs to trace the numerical sequence of the invoices, and the measure will affect large, medium and small businesses. The measures also include controls for the print shops that print each company's invoices. In order to teach businesses about this new process, the director general of Internal Revenue has embarked on a series of meetings with local business representatives.
