[DR1] Fernandez is working for modern state

During a speech in Taiwan yesterday, Dominican President Leonel Fernandez pointed out the efforts that his country is making to set the scene for the creation of a modern nation state. He said the principal aim of such a state is social equality and trusted institutions. Fernandez said that both Taiwan and the Dominican Republic were achieving a real state of law, where social justice was the guiding principle of government. He said that the first step towards modernization and progress should be to improve each citizen's quality of life. The Dominican leader praised Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bien's efforts and manner in the creation of the Chinese Republic of Taiwan. The President later attended an exhibition of Dominican products at the Taiwanese World Trade Center.
