Dominican business groups have rejected the European Union's acceptance of the unilateral imposition of tariffs by Haiti on 222 products. In a press release, the DR Industries Association said that the decision demonstrates a lack respect towards the negotiations between Cariforum and the European Union. AIRD president Manuel Diez Cabral said that this doesn't make sense because the tariffs will only make imported products more expensive, penalizing Haitian consumers.
He criticized that while the DR is being asked to reduce its tariffs, countries to which it exports should be allowed to place barriers to trade.
