- bad: good internet reception only in cramped interior rooms on the 2nd floor
- bad: in some rooms they have lost the key to the room safe
- good: close to Monument and restaurants; and shopping, ATMs, etc.
- good: decent breakfast buffet
- good: friendly staff most of whom speak English

The rooms were nice when I stayed there. But they served me uncooked chicken from their restaurant. Suffice it to say, I won't be staying there if I spend time in Santiago again.

I have always stayed there when I've been on overnight trips to Santiago. Always liked it there, perfect location.

That's not good!! Was it really raw, or slightly undercooked? I hope they've corrected the culinary problems...it seems like a cool place to stay otherwise. Ideally located.

It was raw. Like I said, the rooms were nice and the location is perfect. But biting into raw chicken was such a big turn off, I can't see me staying there again.

I would like a better location than Century Plaza closer to some action and like slightly undercooked chicken here but not raw or pink in a 3rd or 4th world country. Tony Bourdain ate raw chicken in Japan at Sushi Chicken place yuck.:icontd:

How do you guys compare the two?

Food was excellent at Century

Easy freeway access of Vidal

Clean, safe and friendly (at least with one)

1900 so about the same price.

I find it hard to navigate through Santiago and it very easy to get lost.
I haven't mastered getting from 1 thru the city on Feb 27 with out missing a turn yet.
Aloha Sol behind the monument there on the map on Calle Sol might be easy to get lost or not?

Don't know what the rates are, but here is their page. Locals get a big discount (50%, I believe).

FYI...They upped the rate to $1899 from $1799 per night

I just clicked that link for camp david ranch and checked the availability....either that section is broken or they are sold out all rooms from now though Nov 2011 and thats just where the calendar ends.

Not that far. Aloha Sol is downtown on Calle Sol, and the nearest Caribe tour station is in Los Jardines. I've done it dozens of times. Even in morning rush hour traffic, it's a 10-15 minute 150 peso taxi ride.

Basic rooms, actually an apartment housing a kitchen with a full sized refrigerator,stove,storage cabinets counter top, an integrated living or sitting space and windows lookingout over zink/tin roofs and wooden residential proprties. AC, Security, a short walk to the Monument and a 5 minute walk to Parque Duerte in the old downtown. A good value for under $40!!!!!!!!! It is on Calle Santome' one block off of Calle De Sol.

Hey! I lived in an apartment on Calle Santome for a summer when I was studying spanish there about 4 years ago. It's a nice quite little neighborhood, and it's close to downtown and the monument. So I was able to walk most of the time.

I loved it there. So I'm definitely going to have to check this place out. Thanks for the link.

Yep, and the cab ride is only like 150 pesos, because it's so close.

150 pesos will get you anywhere in the city except the airport or somewhere far out like Camp David. I've learned that it's pretty much the standard rate.

And that's also why I refuse to pay the ridiculous rates the taxis in Sosua charge. Much smaller city, but higher taxi rates. Doesn't make any sense.
