He who perseveres succeeds, or so the Naco Sports Club can claim in the case of their basketball team that after almost three decades of the National Basketball Championship has finally brought a national basketball champion trophy to the club.
Naco had been known as the eternal runner up team, but is now finally able to celebrate. They defeated Villa Francisca 98-73 and won the championship in four games (3-1). Luis Flores and Andy Williams were responsible for 20 points each in the final game. Other key players were Marlon Martinez with 15, Roger Washington with 13, and Ivan Almonte with 10 baskets and 13 rebounds. Coach Jose (Boyon) Dominguez is also getting much of the credit.
The win is a tribute to the original team that for so many years, almost made it, made up by the legendary Frank Prats, Aldo Leschorn, Sergio Taveras, Eduardo Gomez and Alejandro Tejeda, among others.
