During a five-hour meeting, the PRD's 159-member political commission accepted the Presidium's proposal to select the 2008 Presidential candidate on 12 November 2006. Diario Libre reports that Hipolito Mejia and Rafael Subervi were not present, although they were represented by their supporters. Emmanuel Esquea, Milagros Ortiz Bosch and Virgilio Bello Rosa had favored a proposal to postpone the convention until April 2007.
