Work is proceeding at a fast pace at the cloverleaf interchange between Avenida Luperon and Km. 9 of the Duarte highway, part of the second line of the Santo Domingo metro. Contractors for the Transport Reorganization Office (OPRET), better known as the metro office, are building the open tunnels for the rail system that is aimed at easing traffic flow from the north of Santo Domingo to San Isidro in the east. El Dia reports that the second line will consist of 24 stations over its 22.5 km stretch. It starts in Los Alcarrizos and runs down Duarte Highway, John F. Kennedy Avenue, V Centenario, La 17, San Vicente de Paul and the Mella Highway.
