The Migration Department has announced the dismantling of what is suspect as a people smuggling aviation ring, as reported in Diario Libre. The authorities are on the lookout for missing US pilot Ryan Kite, who planned to transport 5 passengers on US registration airplane N65NY. Some of the passengers who were questioned said they were traveling domestic to Punta Cana but others said the flight was actually bound for St. Thomas from where the passengers would travel to Puerto Rico. The travelers told the authorities they had paid between US$5,000 and US$7,000 each for the fares. The Migration Department suspected 2 of the travelers while they were waiting to board and requested their documentation. The travelers said that a woman they named Elizabeth had given them access to the boarding area. When questioned by the authorities, Caribair employee Elizabeth Santana said that she had received the passengers and allowed them into the restricted area because the pilot is a client of the company and had requested the checking and boarding service.
The passengers were named as Wilfredo Concepcion Rosario, Aracelis Santos de la Cruz, Alba Iris Perez Sanchez, Vicente Rondon Hernandez and Bernardo Taveras Frias.
